For the project YourStory@Melissa, with Journalism Initiative acting as coordinator, we apply methodologies and know-how introduced and extended over the years via #Youstory action initiated at inside story. Under the framework of this project, these techniques are adapted to be applied for the benefit of the Melissa network.
The aim of the project is to support, encourage and organize the community of women of Melissa in their effort to contribute to the solutions and co-shape the change they wish for themselves by applying Design Thinking and Co-Creation methods with an emphasis on determining the best solutions for themselves and the community.
Project partners
Project coordinator is the Civil Non-Profit Company Journalism Initiative, which was founded in 2018 to restore citizens’ trust in the media and to defend the freedom of the press. Journalism Initiative brings to the project the experience in community-centred journalism and their know-how from being intimately involved in the internationally recognized #YourStory project.
Betty Tsakarestou, associate professor of the Department of Communication, Media and Culture of Panteion University, head of the Advertising and Public Relations laboratory, has pioeneered the innovative methodologies of design thinking (participatory human-centered design) and co-creation with the aim of strengthening the engagement of readers in journalistic practices.
Melissa is a network for migrant and refugee women living in Greece. It aims to promote empowerment and active citizenship, to create and sustain bonds, and to build a bridge of communication with the host society. Founded in September 2014 with the direct involvement of migrant women leaders, it has members from 45 countries who live and work in Greece. It operates on the basis of a common platform, a hub where networks and individuals can meet, share their concerns and ideas, and support each other in the pursuit of their common goals.
