“#YourStory@Melissa” was a project aimed at empowering and integrating refugee and migrant women through design thinking and participatory journalism methodologies.

The project, implemented in 2020, applied methodologies and know-how introduced and improved in recent years through #YourStory actions, aiming to activate, participate, actively engage and collaborate with citizens and journalists to highlight critical issues of concern to them. As part of the project, these techniques were applied to the community of the Melissa Network. The project aims to support, encourage, systematize and organize the community of Melissa women in their efforts to contribute to solutions and co-create the change they want for themselves, by applying Design Thinking and Co-Creation methods with a focus on identifying the best solutions for themselves and the community.
Melissa is a network for migrant and refugee women living in Greece. Its aim is to create and maintain links, to build a “bridge of communication” with the society that welcomes the incomer and to promote the strengthening of an active civil society culture.
The project was implemented with a donation from the Bodossaki Foundation, and coordinated by the Journalism Initiative. #YourStory was designed by Betty Tsakarestou, Associate Professor at the Department of Communication, Media and Culture of Panteion University, head of the Advertising and Public Relations Laboratory, who has introduced the innovative methodologies of design thinking (participatory human-centred design) and co-creation in order to enhance readers’ involvement in journalistic practices.
